The contactless smartcard, which acts as an electronic wallet, stores passenger data, such as the passenger's allowed routes and current credit. The passengers may pay for their journeys in the form of pay-as-you-go single journey ticket scheme or as a prepaid (e.g. monthly) ticket scheme.
The e-karta system uses MIFARE scontactless smartcards for all ticket types.
